Z-channels are having a meltdown over Lyman again, which is always my favorite flavor of cope - one part “we’re advancing,” two parts “actually, we’re surrounded,” and a dash of “it’s all a cunning plan.” You know the vibes: every time Ukraine pushes, the vatniks go from “unstoppable offensive” to “heroic retreat” faster than you can say “lost another general.” Speaking of which, congrats to the Russian army for hitting their monthly quota of dead brass - another general down, and the only thing advancing is the career of the next guy dumb enough to stand near a map.

Meanwhile, the Z-bloggers are spinning so hard they’re about to drill to China. “Official picture of progress in Krasny Lyman turned out to be false,” says one channel, like it’s breaking news that Russian reports are made up. The only thing more consistent than their lies is the panic when reality shows up. You can almost hear the collective shriek from the Z-ecosystem every time a Ukrainian flag pops up on a new block. They’re out here arguing over who to blame - command, the weather, NATO, or the ghost of Tukhachevsky. Spoiler: it’s all of the above, plus a healthy dose of “our own guys shot each other again.”

But don’t worry, Russia’s got bigger problems than just losing ground. Like, say, running out of gas in Leningrad oblast. The governor’s out here begging people to “hold on,” which is rich coming from a guy whose own daughter can’t get to work because there’s no fuel. Imagine being the world’s energy superpower and your top export is “please wait in line for three hours and maybe you’ll get a liter.” The only thing moving faster than the front line is the queue at the gas station. But hey, at least the regime’s got a plan: blame Ukraine for blowing up refineries, blame the West for sanctions, and if all else fails, blame the weather again. Classic.

And then there’s the Ukrainian prosecutor general drama, which the Russian media is drooling over like it’s proof Ukraine is about to collapse. The guy drops a midnight video, accuses everyone of corruption, and skips town. Sure, it’s messy, but at least in Ukraine, when a scandal hits, people actually talk about it and the president calls for resignations. In Russia, the only time you hear about a prosecutor is when he’s found face-down in a river or suddenly “retires” to a dacha in the Urals. But yeah, keep telling yourself Ukraine’s the one falling apart while your own officials are busy looting the treasury and calling it patriotism.

Meanwhile, back at the front, Russian troops are so well-coordinated they’re shooting at each other over drones. Nothing says “second army of the world” like a friendly fire brawl in a trench because nobody bothered to tell the motostrelki and the paratroopers they’re on the same side. The only thing more dangerous to a Russian soldier than a Ukrainian drone is another Russian with a gun and no clue.

And through all this, the Kremlin’s still pumping out the same tired lines: “Everything is under control, victory is inevitable, the West is desperate.” Sure, buddy. If victory means losing generals, running out of gas, and watching your bloggers have public breakdowns, then yeah, you’re absolutely crushing it. The only thing more inevitable than Russian victory is the next round of excuses when it doesn’t show up.

So here we are, day 1664, and the only thing Russia’s conquered is the art of coping. The empire’s falling apart in real time, but don’t worry, there’s always another washing machine to steal and another map to redraw. Just don’t ask them to drive there, unless you’ve got a jerrycan and three hours to spare.
