Let’s talk about Poland’s “demands” on Ukraine, because every time I see

@annrichard1990.bsky.social

every time a z-channel or some polish right-winger starts foaming about bandera, i know im about to get a migraine and a free clown show. the polish-ukrainian drama is like a soap opera where everyone’s got amnesia about who started what, but the kremlin’s always lurking in the background, eating popcorn and praying for a brawl.

poland’s right wing meltdown

the law and justice party (pis) has been running poland so long they started thinking theyre the main character. now theyre getting booted from their own party, poll numbers in freefall, and the anti-ukrainian noise is just their last desperate flex. all this bandera and volyn talk? not about “history” or “justice,” its about clout, votes, and distracting from the fact that polands right is in meltdown mode.

every time a politician suddenly discovers a burning passion for 1943, check their poll numbers. spoiler: theyre tanking. its like watching a guy set his own house on fire so nobody notices the plumbing’s busted.

not all poland, just the loudest

poland isnt some monolith, no matter how many z-bloggers wish it was. theres the loud, angry crowd yelling about “ukrainization” and demanding ukraine crawl on its knees, and then theres the rest of poland, who know damn well that millions of ukrainians are keeping their economy running. pissing off kyiv is a gift to moscow, and most people get that.

problem is, the loudmouths set the tone, and the reasonable folks end up reacting instead of leading. its like letting the drunkest guy at the party pick the playlist, then acting surprised when everyone’s dancing to hardbass remixes of conspiracy theories.

the “demands” are just cosplay

every time ukraine gets closer to the eu, poland suddenly remembers a new list of grievances. “you cant join with bandera!” “you have to apologize for volyn!” “you have to forget what we did to you, but never forget what you did to us!” its a one-way street paved with double standards and selective amnesia.

lets be real, if it wasnt bandera, theyd find another excuse. if you want to block ukraine from the eu or nato, you’ll always find a pretext. history is just the costume they put on for the show. the real script is about leverage, not memory.

  • “you cant join with bandera!”
  • “you have to apologize for volyn!”
  • “forget what we did to you, but never forget what you did to us!”

reality check: business as usual

meanwhile, the actual polish government is still sending weapons, still signing up for every “coalition of the willing,” still prepping the 50th military aid package. even the most anti-ukrainian polish politician knows russia is the real threat. the kremlin wants nothing more than a warsaw-kyiv food fight, and every time some polish mp tries to start one, you can practically hear putin giggling.

ukraines diplomats get this. theyre not taking the bait, not opening a second front while the first ones still hot. kyiv’s playing it cool, sending back medals instead of drama, refusing to let the loudest polish trolls set the agenda. its not about lviv, its not about borders, its about not getting played by the kremlin’s fanfic.

the only people who win when warsaw and kyiv fight are the ones with a map of “novorossiya” on their wall and a washing machine in their trunk.

the real danger: weaponized nostalgia

dont get it twisted, poland isnt plotting to grab lviv or redraw borders. thats just kremlin fanfic for the terminally online. whats actually happening is a bunch of polish politicians using ukraine as a punching bag to score points at home, while business and reality keep humming along. the “secret polish motive” is about as secret as a babushka at a market: keep ukraine weak enough to not be a competitor, but strong enough to keep russia out.

but this stuff isnt just talk. attacks on ukrainians in poland are up, and the temperature’s rising. the further ukraine gets on the eu track, the more you’ll see these “demands” weaponized. every step forward for ukraine means another round of “but what about our pain?” from the usual suspects. its asymmetric as hell, ukraine’s supposed to apologize for everything, poland for nothing. that’s not reconciliation, that’s just a shakedown with a flag on it.

theater for the home crowd

for all the noise, poland’s not about to cut ukraine loose. they know which side their bread’s buttered on. the real split isnt warsaw vs kyiv, its inside poland itself, between the clowns chasing kremlin talking points and the grownups who remember what happens when you let moscow pick your friends for you.

so next time you see a headline about “polish demands” or some z-blogger drooling about a polish-ukrainian split, remember: its mostly theater, mostly cope, and mostly for domestic consumption. everyone else? just trying not to get played.

russian propaganda is like a guy with a toilet in the yard calling the rest of us uncivilized.
