Tonight, Democracy Lost at a national level. Again. While it worked in theory, it was always handicapped by the Electoral Collage. While the mainstream outlets like to present horse races, there are plenty of individuals on these networks, such as NBC, who've openly stated that it is a Draconian system, to paraphrase. It is nuts that this country can call a winner before everyone's ballot has been counted in all 50 states!
Even if a Republican wins, they could always lose the popular vote, and it's not the first time they have. Yet we're stuck pointing fingers and blaming everyone else when it's the system that is causing all this mayhem. So, I am disappointed, but not surprised.
But, despite Trump's success, they were still scared. Even as they were begging their supporters to vote, we saw ballot boxes destroyed, bomb threats on election day, escalated use of AI, and we can't forget Elon himself spent days clogging everyone's Twitter feed with support for Trump. Hell, they were outright planning another Jan. 6th. Why? I don't know. I do know that it's hilarious that we're no longer hearing them cry "fraud" anymore.
My only hunch was Harris' 50-state campaign trail. She made Texas a potential swing state, and it's easy to see why when you look back. The state gained 40 electoral votes from its previous 38. That pushed Trump into the lead by wide margins, and unfortunately, the order that each state calls first also matters. Of course, red states were going to race to call it Trump.
On the other hand, all hope is not lost. The majority of states, except for Florida, were able to pass abortion laws into their state constitutions. One even managed to get higher wages. I could go on. Likewise, people who left Twitter throughout the course of this year are going to be more informed. Move away from Telegram to Signal, though. That's more secure.
So, yeah, Trump's surrogates (and trolls) may argue abortion didn't matter, but, no, it still did. Project 2025 could prove difficult for Trump. If they want to take it to the States, then so be it.
