Russia’s size used to be its cheat code.

@edwardlue1973.bsky.social

russia’s size used to be its cheat code, now its just a bigger bullseye. mongols, napoleon, hitler, all got lost in the mud and snow, but ukraine’s sending drones on arctic road trips and lighting up gas plants 3000 km deep in siberia. the old “invade us and freeze” playbook is dead, replaced by “get hit from a laptop in poltava while your air defense is stretched thinner than a vatnik’s patience at a mcdonald’s.”

too much land, not enough defense

the only thing russia’s got more of than land is stuff it cant protect. for centuries, size meant you could lose a million men and shrug, now it means you’ve got a million places to get blown up and not enough s-400s to cover half of them. ukraine clocked this faster than the kremlin can finish a bottle of cognac. they’re not marching on moscow, they’re just making sure every oil depot, logistics hub, and wildberries warehouse is one drone away from a fireworks show.

every time something goes boom, russia’s gotta pick: defend the refinery, the drone factory, or the president’s dacha. spoiler, they cant do all three. the map gets flexed every time they redraw it after another “regrouping.” the “second army of the world” cant even defend its own amazon knockoff warehouses, let alone the arctic gas fields.

  • oil depots
  • logistics hubs
  • wildberries and ozon distribution centers

take out those, and suddenly it doesnt matter how many mobiks you drag out of the villages, because you cant kit them out with anything but a shovel and a prayer.

mobilization: the m-word nobody says

kremlin’s allergic to the m-word. mobilization. every time someone asks, putin and medvedev do their best “who, me?” routine, which in russia means you should probably start digging your own trench. they know the second they announce another wave, the last shreds of the social contract go up in smoke. the regime’s whole deal is “we rob you, you keep quiet, and maybe your kid doesnt come home in a box.”

start drafting more cannon fodder and even the most zombified tv viewer starts to notice the math isnt mathing. the regime’s stuck between a rock and a mass grave, and the only thing they export faster than excuses is guys running for the border with a backpack.

ukraine’s playbook: shut up and win

lets not pretend ukraine’s just winning because russia’s dumb. ukraine’s running textbook combined arms ops, keeping their mouths shut, and letting the results speak. four months of opsec so tight even the z bloggers couldnt leak it, then boom, russian lines north of lyman get erased. gerasimov’s “fortress belt” plan? about as sturdy as a lada in february.

russians cant cross the oskil, cant hold the donbas, and every time they try to mass forces, they get smoked by artillery or drones. the only thing they’re advancing is the number of excuses on solovyov’s show.

the only thing bigger than russia’s landmass is the gap between its propaganda and reality.

whack-a-mole defense and hybrid cope

russia’s stuck playing whack-a-mole with its own territory. every time ukraine hits a refinery or a logistics hub, russia has to shuffle its precious air defense around like a drunk at a shell game. too much to cover, not enough gear. the old “depth” that used to save them is now just a liability. you cant defend 11 time zones with a handful of soviet leftovers and a bunch of conscripts who thought they were signing up for a desk job.

regime’s got a new trick: hybrid attacks. cant win on the battlefield? try to scare europe with drone strikes on airports, sabotage in nato countries, and the occasional missile “accidentally” landing in poland or romania. the goal? make everyone so numb to russian fuckery that when something big actually happens, nobody blinks.

  • drone strikes on european airports
  • sabotage in nato countries
  • missile “accidents” in poland, romania

same playbook as always, escalate, probe, see if anyone pushes back. when nobody does, push a little further. leipzig airport gets hit, germany shrugs, kremlin takes notes for next time.

ukraine’s not asking permission

ukraine’s not playing by the old rules. not waiting for permission, not holding back because some guy in washington is mad about diesel prices. they’re hitting what hurts, oil, gas, logistics, the stuff that actually funds the war. every time the us president whines about “escalation,” ukraine just keeps stacking up wins. the only people more pissed than the kremlin are the russian truckers who suddenly cant fill up their kamaz for less than a week’s wages.

meanwhile, the us is busy eating itself alive. pentagon’s getting purged like its 1937, generals and admirals getting fired for not being maga enough, and the only people left are the ones who can do more pushups than paperwork. congress? too busy arguing about pronouns to notice the ammo’s running out and the air force is flying on fumes.

the only thing getting protected is the president’s ego and his son’s wedding, which, by the way, got paid for by a russian oligarch with more ties to putin than a moscow haberdashery.

russian money, american weddings

yeah, you read that right. don jr gets a wedding on a private island, courtesy of a guy whose day job is kidnapping ukrainian kids and laundering gazprom cash through a boxing association. the same crew that’s supposed to be negotiating peace in ukraine is out here taking selfies with the kremlin’s favorite bagman. and the us president? either doesnt know or doesnt care, which is somehow worse.

if you ever wondered how much it costs to buy american foreign policy, apparently the answer is “a really nice fireworks show and a couple of yachts.”

the cope olympics

back in russia, the cope is reaching new heights. every time ukraine hits another oil depot, the regime runs to trump and begs him to make it stop. trump tweets that both sides agreed to chill, but russia never agreed to shit, and ukraine’s not about to stop just because some guy in florida got a phone call from a guy in sochi.

the only deals russia honors are the ones they can cheat on, and everyone knows it. the idea that ukraine’s gonna stop hitting legitimate military targets because the us president is having a tantrum is pure fantasy.

lost generation, rerun elections

lets talk about the “lost generation” in the west. young people cant afford a house, a car, or even a decent meal, and the only thing tech companies are innovating is new ways to charge you for stuff that used to be free. every election is just a rerun of the last one, with the same old faces promising change and delivering nothing but more subscriptions and higher bills.

the only thing that changes is which billionaire gets to pretend they’re saving the world this week.

europe’s side-eye and putin’s dream team

europe’s watching all this and wondering what the hell happened to america. the country that used to be the gold standard for democracy is now just another reality show, and the rest of the world is taking notes. putin’s loving it, he’s got his dream team in dc, the west is distracted, and every far-right party in europe is getting a little taste of that sweet, sweet russian cash.

the only thing stopping him is a bunch of ukrainians who refuse to die quietly and a handful of europeans who still remember what “never again” is supposed to mean.

ukraine flips the script

ukraine’s not waiting for anyone to save them. they’re doing what needs to be done, with or without western help. they’re showing what real resilience looks like, freezing in the dark, getting bombed every night, and still finding a way to fight back. every drone strike, every burned-out warehouse, every russian general who wakes up to find his supply line gone, that’s ukraine flipping the script on centuries of russian imperial bullshit.

russia’s size isn’t a strength anymore. it’s a liability, a giant, empty shell that can’t protect itself from a country a fraction its size but ten times as motivated. the regime’s too busy stealing, lying, and blaming everyone else to fix the rot. the only thing they export these days is excuses and guys running for the border with a backpack.

so yeah, the “second army of the world” is now the world’s biggest target. and the only thing bigger than russia’s landmass is the gap between its propaganda and reality. ukraine’s not just fighting for itself, it’s exposing the whole rotten system, one drone strike at a time. and the best part? the regime can’t do a damn thing about it except whine, threaten, and pray the next drone misses.

that’s the new russian dream: a lada that starts, a neighbor poorer than you, and a tv that swears the latest explosion is just western psyops. meanwhile, ukraine’s out here making the empire look smaller every day, and all the kremlin can do is watch it burn.

russian tv tonight: we glass london by tuesday. russian reality: the unit got wiped by a farmer with a drone and a grudge.
