Taking time to be human

#blogging

Recently, I discovered a blog hosting platform that doesn’t require me to deepen my dependency on Google. After learning a few markdown basics, I realized that WhiteWind is actually quite user-friendly. Finally, I have a tool that lets me write and share longer texts on Bluesky—something I've been lacking.

Every spring, I’m reminded of the beauty of nature. I need to make more time to be outdoors with my camera, to reconnect with what I loved as a teenager: documenting the small wonders of the world. I don’t need to be a professional photographer to take pictures; all I need is a simple camera and a curious mind.

The picture here is from last year. While jogging around Kyrksjölötens nature reserve in Stockholm, I met this lovely cat seeking cuddles. All I had was my phone, but it was enough to capture the moment. But I also have a camera that I'm very fond of (Canon PowerShot SX70HS for those who care about numbers) - carefully chosen for me by one of my favorite people.

#work #AI

Whenever I’ve had a full-time job, I’ve stopped doing the things I love in order to focus on making ends meet. But these days, AI is increasingly capable of doing everything I was hired for. Whatever skills I develop, AI seems to master them within months. The rest is done by senior developers, or extremely talented young juniors who grew up with computers. It’s becoming unclear what my role is and how long it will last.

Shouldn’t this mean I have more free time to do the things that truly matter to me?

I want to go out and take pictures. I want to walk in the forest and talk to cats. I want to spend more time dancing and meeting friends. After all, there’s one thing AI can’t do: be human. It can’t take real, imperfect pictures or write with the depth of human experience. It cannot cure a sore back or exhausted brain, and it cannot write poems with feeling.

AI cannot replace me, it can only do meaningless tasks for me, and give me time to live. Or, that´s what I think it should do.

In the beginning, it looked like AI would do the boring work, and give me time to learn something more fun and challenging. That´s not what happened, though. I'm not really seeing those promised effects. I don't have more time, on the contrary - I'm stressed to my limits trying to catch up with AI. But it's always faster.

Still, I cherish the moments in between, and I take time to write, think, or just be. I walk in the forest and take pictures, and learn to sing a song in Spanish, just because I want to.
