A Memorable Opening
One thing I love about Wolfblood was that it opened with a horror-movie fake-out with diegetic sound. I honestly feel like that gave precedence to the show's literal duality of a teen drama with a lycanthropic twist. That whole opening scene was great, and gave room for some questions of intrigue.
The Spark of a Special Interest
Of course, as I've stated before, the show was what spawned my ever-enduring special interest in lycanthropy. Yes, it had its clichés and drawbacks (for example, various hunters being the main villains of the series) but for a 2012 kids' TV show, it had my attention.
Perfect Timing
For context, I was its prime audience, being seven when it first aired. I easily had my belief suspended for the time watching the show because it was engaging and fun. I didn't care for full-on practical effects akin to Rick Baker's work, I was happy with what there was and loved the soundtrack.
Fans and Their Complaints
That's not to say I don't see the complaints of other fans, such as the lack of a sixth series and that the show got worse after the shift from the rural Stoneybridge to the city. Quite frankly, the five that we got were good in their own merits, and those fans are barking up the wrong tree. The production crew are not Kincaid, for God's sake. Give them some slack!
Appreciating the Craft
The production crew and cast clearly had fun while filming the show, and put a lot of love into it. To beat them down just for not doing this or that is disingenuous to what we did get.
Final Thoughts
My point is, it's shows like Wolfblood that are special to some, and not to others. Artists should appreciate their work, even if some people on the receiving end don't, because what is an end without an enjoyable beginning and middle?
