Sunlit Handshakes, Late-Night Merges—and Barcelona on the Calendar

Hive met in person again this week. Builders and fans shared photos and stories from Hive Open Days in Alicante. The same crowd is already bookmarking HiveFest XI in Barcelona this September—picking up the thread from last issue’s HiveFest save-the-date.

Under the hood, core devs kept pushing balance-class work on the main node. The 3Speak desktop team shipped more OpenPods upgrades. Wallets, games, and fresh explorers rounded out the week.

This is HiveToday—a weekly recap of the Hive blockchain ecosystem.

New here? Hive runs on delegated proof-of-stake: token holders elect witnesses who produce blocks. You can blog, comment, and play games without paying gas on every click. The chain has been live since March 2020.

Editor's Take

Three threads stood out.

First, the Alicante meetup was the social headline. Recaps, bilingual day-by-day posts, and a long HOD summary filled the reward leaderboard. That energy matters for a chain that still wins fans face-to-face.

Second, Barcelona is now the north star on the calendar. @hivefest locked 17–20 September 2026. If you started planning after issue #81, this week’s community posts are your reminder to watch hivefe.st for hotels and tickets.

Third, builders did not slow down. OpenPods and Hangouts picked up another round of fixes on the video side. Ecency answered DHF questions. Keychain teased USDC for new accounts. The week felt like travel stories up top and shipping code underneath.

The Story of the Week: Hive Open Days in Alicante, With Barcelona on Deck

The reward data tells the story. @schmidi posted a bilingual recap of Hive Open Days Alicante (30 April–3 May) and topped the week at 286 HP, with more than 1,000 votes and 64 comments. @livinguktaiwan added a conference-style HOD Alicante 2026 summary—another long thread with 60 comments.

@palomap3 documented Day 3 and Day 4 in Spanish and English. Day 3 alone drew roughly 1,400 votes; Day 4 kept the momentum with nearly 1,000 votes. That is the kind of cross-language hospitality that keeps regional hubs alive.

@demotruk and @demotruk framed the bigger picture: how #introduceyourself changed over the years, and why Spanish-speaking creators still choose Hive. Read together with the Alicante posts, the week reads as “meet in person, then explain why the network is worth staying on.”

In parallel, @hivefest reinforced HiveFest XI in Barcelona—the same city thread we highlighted in issue #81, now with fresh community chatter (74 comments on the save-the-date post). Alicante was the handshake; Barcelona is the appointment on the calendar.

Development Pulse

Core node work moved toward cleaner money types on chain. Engineers added balance-class definitions and tests, and pointed more tooling at the database API instead of older wallet-bridge paths in tests. That is groundwork for safer accounting as Hive apps multiply.

On hive.blog, the open denser test suite grew again—full paths for post creation, validation edge cases, and payout combinations. The goal is fewer surprises when authors edit posts or claim rewards.

Infrastructure tools tracked Hive 1.28.6 dependencies. The HAF block explorer gained a new operation-type statistics endpoint—useful for dashboards that slice chain activity by operation kind.

Video and OpenPods: The 3Speak / Mantequilla-Soft repos merged a busy week—OpenPods guest mode, deep links, share buttons, Pro gating for audio, and fixes for join races on 3Speak TV. Snapie Audio doubled its upload ceiling to 100 MB. @thecrazygm published a security audit of Go4Hive on C/HiveDevs.

Community-built tools: @mateodm03 launched Hive Engine Blocks, a reader-friendly Hive Engine explorer. @cadawg introduced HIVEMIND, a battle-royale concept that uses Hive posts as in-game weapons. @iamkaye argued Hive’s discovery problem is SEO and indexing—not a search-engine grudge. @hivepulse.app is logging prelaunch work on HivePulse.app. @sagarkothari88 continues daily shipping notes across HiveReactKit, hSnaps, and related apps—see the latest C/HiveDevs entry for the current build.

Project Spotlights

Ecency@ecency outlined how it scales Hive access and infrastructure, then followed with a proposal Q&A on roadmap and DHF plans.

Splinterlands@splinterlands teased Escalation Conflicts: Prepare For Battle, the game’s main official post this week.

Magi Network@magi.network shipped a token factory and opened a writing contest with BTC and delegation prizes. @tibfox and @asgarth covered Magi swaps on PeakD.

Hive Keychain@keychain previewed creating a Hive account with USDC—onboarding without leaving familiar stablecoins.

Actifit@actifit released Actifit Web v1.10.0 with security hardening, smarter rewards, and a refreshed signup flow—the launch post trended on C/HiveDevs this week.

3Speak / OpenPods — No new root post on @threespeak this week; shipping showed up in OpenPods / Hangouts merges and @thecrazygm’s Go4Hive audit.

Worldmappin — Daily Travel Digest series continued (#2914–#2918), keeping the travel community on a steady cadence.

Hive NFTs@mateodm03 added NFT auctions and related marketplace features.

Network Stats

MetricThis week
HIVE price (CoinGecko)~$0.060
HIVE market cap~$32.4M
HBD market cap (trading)~$31.0M
CoinGecko rank (HIVE)#666
24h HIVE change−0.96%
HBD print rate (chain)0
HIVE powered up (7d)~164,746 HIVE
HIVE powered down (7d)~880,008 HIVE
Net staking flow (7d)~−715k HIVE (more powered down than up)

HBD, short: The chain still shows no new HBD paid in author rewards (print rate 0). Trading data puts HBD near $0.93 with a market cap around $31M—that is what exchanges price, not the full face-value supply sitting in wallets and the hive.fund vault. For haircut and debt-ratio detail, see issue #75 and the live dashboard—not a back-of-the-napkin HIVE-supply fraction.

Powering up: Large power-downs dominated the seven-day tally even as meetup hosts like @livinguktaiwan added stake. Net flow is a snapshot, not a verdict on sentiment.

Governance

Twenty-one top witnesses mostly run v1.28.3. @deathwing remains on v1.28.0—worth an upgrade when convenient, not an emergency.

Funded DHF proposals above return #0 this snapshot:

@shortsegments published a cluster of plain-language posts on the stabilizer, remittances, and HBD mechanics—useful if you vote on #377.

About Hive

Hive is a decentralized proof-of-stake network for social apps, games, and finance tools. Witnesses you elect produce blocks. Most everyday actions—posts, votes, transfers—skip the small per-click fees common on other chains. Developers share open APIs and frontends so users can pick the app they like while keeping the same account.
