Z-channels are melting down over Lyman again, which means it’s Tuesday and the “second army of the world” just tripped over its own shoelaces in public. You know it’s bad when even the vatniks are running out of synonyms for “regrouping” and have to admit, yeah, maybe that whole “steady progress in Krasny Lyman” was just another bedtime story for the Telegram crowd. Turns out, if you keep promising to take Kyiv by Friday and end up losing a cornfield by Monday, eventually even your own cheerleaders start to notice the scoreboard.

The Lyman panic is classic: first, they scream about “Ukrainian meat assaults,” then they post shaky drone footage of a trench, then they quietly delete yesterday’s victory memes. This is the Z-blogger circle of life. The only thing moving faster than the Ukrainian counterattack is the speed at which Russian milbloggers go from “unstoppable offensive” to “heroic last stand” to “actually, it was a tactical withdrawal, and also NATO did it.” If you ever want to see cope in real time, just watch a Z-channel try to explain why the same block of ruins has changed hands three times in a week and it’s always a win for Russia.

Meanwhile, another Russian general just got his ticket punched, which is basically a weekly event at this point. The only thing more dangerous than being a Russian general near the front is being a Russian general who tells Putin the truth. The turnover rate is so high, I’m starting to think the Kremlin HR department is just a revolving door and a guy with a shovel. Every time a general gets vaporized, the regime calls it “rotation.” Sure, buddy, and my neighbor’s Lada is a Tesla. The real miracle is that there’s still anyone left to pin medals on, though at this rate, they’ll be giving out Hero of Russia to the last guy who can read a map.

But don’t worry, the propaganda machine is on it. They’ll tell you the general died heroically, single-handedly holding off a battalion of NATO cyborgs with a rusty AK and a bottle of kvass. Meanwhile, the actual footage is just a crater and some guys in Adidas tracksuits arguing about whose turn it is to dig the next foxhole. The Z-channels will post a candle emoji, blame the FSB, the CIA, and probably the weather, then go back to arguing about who gets to sell the next batch of “liberated” washing machines.

While all this is going on, the Russian home front is living the dream. Gasoline lines in Leningrad oblast are so long, the governor’s own daughter couldn’t make it home. Imagine running an oil empire and still having to beg your citizens to “be patient” while they wait two hours to fill up a tank. The only thing more Russian than a fuel shortage is blaming it on “temporary logistical difficulties” while half the country is busy setting fire to oil depots with drones. The governor’s big flex is that his kid had to take the bus. Next week, he’ll be bragging about how his family only had to eat buckwheat three times this week, real progress.

And then there’s the Ukrainian prosecutor general drama, which the Z-channels are foaming over like it’s the Watergate of Kyiv. Kravchenko drops a midnight video, accuses anti-corruption agencies of stealing files, says the president blocked him, and then dips out of the country before sunrise. The vatniks are loving it, because nothing gets them going like a Ukrainian scandal, especially when their own regime is literally run by guys who steal bridges and call it infrastructure development. The difference is, in Ukraine, the scandal actually gets aired out, the guy resigns (eventually), and everyone gets to argue about it in public. In Russia, you just wake up one day and the prosecutor is “on vacation” in Dubai, and nobody asks questions unless they want to join him.

Let’s not forget the front line comedy: Russian soldiers shooting at each other because they can’t tell who’s who, drone panic, and the occasional “accidental” explosion in Crimea. The only thing more dangerous than Ukrainian artillery is a Russian conscript with a Kalashnikov and no map. Every week, there’s a new story about friendly fire, blown-up ammo dumps, or some captain getting turned into a TikTok highlight reel. The Z-channels try to spin it as “fog of war,” but at this point, it’s more like “fog of vodka.”

Meanwhile, the Russian economy is sprinting backwards. Sanctions biting, oil money drying up, and the only thing keeping the lights on is a bunch of guys selling looted microwaves on Avito. The regime tells you everything’s fine, just ignore the fact that your salary buys half as much as last year and your neighbor’s kid is now “volunteering” somewhere near Bakhmut. The top export is still people running away with a suitcase and a one-way ticket to anywhere that doesn’t have conscription.

So yeah, day 1664, and the Z-channels are still stuck in the same loop: panic, cope, blame, repeat. The only thing more reliable than Russian propaganda is the fact that every time they promise a victory, you can set your watch to another meltdown by the weekend. Ukraine keeps pushing, the regime keeps lying, and the vatniks keep clapping for the circus, even as the tent catches fire.
