Hello! I'm Jay! This is NOT my first bluesky account and also not my main one, but I made this account with a couple intentions. The primary one is to use it as a way to document my "sidequests" as I do them, and to just talk about a few things that I'm hesitant to talk about on my main socials. My main bluesky account is mostly a fandom-based one, and I intend to make this account largely more about myself. It feels weird to say that, and it may change going forward, but that's my current intention.
On top of that, though, I'm testing out atproto socials and particularly how they interact. Normally, if I wanted to make a multi-platform social media presence, I'd to the typical YouTube-Insta-Threads-TikTok-Tumblr setup. I say typical because I've done it multiple times before, though I'm sure most people would usually stick to just one of those. This time, though, I'm trying to stay on the simpler side. With the YouTube boycott, Meta's AI, and TikTok's new rules, I was hesitant to use any of those right now, and I KNOW I want to post short-form videos, which I don't believe Tumblr has the capacity for in the way I'd most prefer to use it. That's why I've decided that this time, I'm doing things differently.
I made one(1) account. A Bluesky account, though I got a handle to take away the specific branding. I was elligible for the Skylight beta, so I got in on that, and I found that Pinksky is good for an Instagram-esque presentation, so I got that too. They all use the same account, and they're all connected, so I don't need to worry about extra logins or crossposting. And, if you're reading this, it should be fairly obvious that I found WhiteWind, and chose to use it for long-form text blogging. I've yet to find something that makes sense as a YouTube alternative, but my main priority for this account is short-form videos anyway, so I don't mind too much.
I know I'd have more options available if I used activitypub platforms instead, but at least I'm familiar with Bluesky and a handful of the people on it. I'm also having a lot of fun exploring these current options, as well as alternate clients for plain old Bluesky. I've yet to seriously begin posting on the Bluesky end of this account, as I'm waiting for a day where it's cool enough to go outside for a few hours and not be miserable from the heat, but I'm happy to be starting on this! New socials and newer sidequests, here I come :3
