Let’s talk about the latest Russian propaganda meltdown, starring the usual cast

@leonolan98.bsky.social

russian propaganda meltdown this week is pure slapstick, like watching a guy try to mop up a flood with a napkin and call it victory. the kremlin’s finest are running around like someone told them the washing machines in ukraine are booby-trapped, because the only thing collapsing faster than their lines is their official story. theme of the week: “we lied all the way to the top.” no shit, but damn, the panic is thick enough to spread on black bread.

the propaganda playbook: deny, deflect, distract, lie

russian propaganda is a choose-your-own-adventure where every ending is “russia wins, facts be damned.” when things go sideways, the script never changes: deny, deflect, distract, and if all else fails, just straight up lie. this is the same crew that called losing balakliya and izyum in 2022 a “regrouping,” and when ukrainian troops strolled into kursk region in 2024, gerasimov was on tv the next day saying the “enemy’s advance into russia has been stopped,” like he was reading the weather.

the only thing more consistent than the lying is how quickly they turn on each other when the lies stop working. every time ukraine takes back territory, the kremlin and its echo chamber try to rewrite the story before the ink is dry. balakliya? “regrouping.” izyum? “strategic withdrawal.” kursk? “advance stopped.” lyman? “enemy media hysteria.” it’s like watching a guy lose at chess and insist he was just testing the board for stability.

the regime is stuck in a loop: lie, get caught, blame someone else, repeat.

operation vivaldi: receipts hit harder than any shell

the latest freakout is about the ukrainian operation “vivaldi” around lyman. the 3rd army corps of the ukrainian armed forces didn’t just push the russians back, they did it so publicly and so hard that even the most loyal z bloggers are running out of synonyms for “regrouping.” the operation started quietly back in may, ran all summer, and then on september 15th, the ukrainians just announced it like it was a new album drop. by the end of september, they’d reclaimed 51 square kilometers in the third phase alone, 176 since the whole thing kicked off. that’s not a “minor tactical withdrawal,” that’s a landlord changing the locks while you’re still inside.

the receipts are savage. on september 28th, the 3rd corps dropped photos and videos of russian pows - dozens in a single frame, nearly a hundred in total, and 250 claimed for the whole operation. the russian ministry of defense? not a peep. not even a “these are actors” or “deepfakes.” just radio silence, like if they ignore it long enough, maybe the prisoners will just walk home on their own.

meanwhile, oleg tsaryov, one of the regime’s favorite talking heads, is out here posting “the truth about the front can’t be given to the enemy,” which is a fancy way of saying “if we admit reality, we’re screwed.” the contrast is brutal: one side is living in reality, the other is arguing about who gets to hold the shovel while they dig the hole deeper.

z blogger meltdown: filter, accuse, repeat

the real comedy is in the z blogger reaction. the channel “pora domoy” (time to go home, which is honestly great advice for the whole russian army) spent the days before the collapse telling everyone to “filter information.” translation: if the news is bad, delete it. on september 29th, they went full scorched earth on anyone reporting from abroad about lyman, accusing them of being enemy agents and saying the “enemy media” is throwing everything at krasny lyman.

when the front is falling apart, even the usual bread-and-circus topics can’t compete. gasoline shortages, marketplace scams, rigged elections - all faded out. the only thing left is to yell at each other on telegram while ukraine keeps moving the line.

lets break down the layers of cope:

  • “filtering” info: if you can’t win on the battlefield, try to win in the group chat. keep the base loyal by pretending nothing’s wrong, and if someone points out the emperor’s ass is hanging out, accuse them of working for the enemy.
  • “don’t give the enemy the truth”: when you’re winning, you brag. when you’re losing, you say “we can’t talk about it for security reasons.” problem is, the internet exists. you can’t hide a hundred pows and a lost city in 2026.
  • historical revisionism: every loss gets a new label, but the map keeps shrinking.

the infighting is getting spicy. “pora domoy” is calling out anyone who doesn’t toe the line, accusing them of spreading enemy propaganda. tsaryov is warning about “information leaks.” the ministry of defense is hiding under the desk. it’s a circular firing squad of blame, denial, and pure, uncut cope.

why the meltdown matters: the regime’s house of cards

russian propaganda isn’t just about making russians feel good. it’s about controlling the narrative so tightly that nobody even knows what’s real anymore. when the regime says “we lied all the way to the top,” it’s not a confession, it’s a strategy. the goal is to keep the base confused, angry, and loyal, because if they ever figure out how badly they’re being played, the whole house of cards comes down.

but every time ukraine pulls off an operation like this, the cracks get wider. the regime can’t hide the losses, can’t explain away the pows, can’t distract with gas prices or fake elections. the z bloggers start to panic, the infighting gets worse, and the audience starts asking questions. not everyone, not all at once, but enough to make the kremlin nervous.

the more they lie, the less it works. every “regrouping” makes the next one less believable. every “enemy media hysteria” just makes people look for the real story. every time they say “don’t give the enemy the truth,” someone leaks it anyway. at some point, even the most loyal vatnik has to wonder why the “second army of the world” keeps losing to a country they said would fold in a week.

the circus is on fire and the clowns are sweating

the real story isn’t just about lost territory or captured soldiers. it’s about a regime so addicted to its own bullshit that it can’t even tell the truth to itself. the z bloggers are just the canaries in the coal mine, screeching louder every time the gas gets thicker. the only thing more pathetic than the lies is how predictable they’ve become. and the only thing funnier is watching them realize, in real time, that nobody’s buying it anymore - not even the people paid to pretend.

so next time you see a russian talking head sweating on tv, remember: it’s not just the front that’s collapsing. it’s the whole circus. and the clowns are starting to notice the tent’s on fire.

russian propaganda: we lied all the way to the top. reality: the only thing they’re winning is a gold medal in cope olympics. if you’re still buying what the regime is selling, i’ve got a bridge in crimea to sell you - cheap, but you’ll have to swim for it.
