Here’s why I’m moving from X to Bluesky—and I’d love for you to come along.

Imagine this: a social platform that feels alive, purpose-built for real conversations and collaboration without the noise. That’s Bluesky. It’s got that early Twitter vibe, and here (at least for my community), we can focus on law, tech, and AI without the distractions (yep, no politics zone- for me). Therefore, I'm stepping back from X, and it feels like the right call.
But then, there’s the kicker—Bluesky isn’t just another app. It’s built for flexibility and control in ways that most platforms can’t match. Let me break it down:
Any App: Bluesky’s open nature lets you pick your preferred app. There’s an official one, sure, but you’re not tied to it. Therefore, if you want to customize your experience, you can—just like the good old days of social media.
Any Feed: No single, looming algorithm dictating what you see here. You subscribe to the feeds you want, or even create your own. It’s content on your terms—meaningful, intentional, and precisely how you like it.
Own Your Data: Here’s a game-changer. You can set up a Personal Data Server, owning your content completely. With domain-tied handles, your data and name stay yours, not a platform’s.
No Ads: That’s right. Bluesky is ad-free. Instead of data tracking and pushing ads, they’re banking on paid features—meaning it’s a platform built to serve its users, not advertisers.
Any Moderator: You’re in charge of your moderation preferences. Bluesky provides a default option, but you can choose your own service to control the content you see. Control, again, is yours.
Un-Buyable: Bluesky’s open-source nature keeps it independent—no billionaire takeover here. If someone tries, anyone can recreate and relaunch the platform, preserving its freedom. It’s social media as it should be—yours, ours.
