Billionaire Mind Virus

Question: Why should government be "as small as possible?"

A billionaire might reply:

  • I am the smartest entity in the known universe.
    • You can tell because I am the richest ever.
      • Because we have a rational economic system that rewards merit.
      • Luck has nothing to do with it!
  • Things could be better.
    • Because I am smarter than anyone else, I know best what is broken and how to fix it.
      • That's how I got so wealthy.
  • Our collective decision making could be better.
    • Democracy is flawed because average and below-average people get to vote!
    • A system where I am in complete control will be much more rational and efficient because of my superior intelligence and business acumen.
    • My tremendous wealth gives me the power to take control. It's logical and in everyone's best interest that I do so.
  • I will start my reforms by taking a chainsaw to government, because most public employees are just wasting my money on things that don't matter to me.
  • Former government workers can get jobs with companies owned by billionaires, where they will be efficient and productive, and work together towards a common goal, selected and directed by the best and smartest.
  • That common goal might be for me to get to Mars, or for billionaires to get richer, don't worry too much about this, you aren't smart enough to understand what's best for you, much less what's good for all of us.
