The Recruitment Collapse
The plan counted on students, DOSAAF graduates, ex-aviation personnel, and women with technical skills. Instead they got mass refusal. Students see the trap. Ukraine keeps that edge for precisely this reason. Our defense ecosystem runs on private initiative and competitive pressure. People volunteer because they believe in the mission, not because a commissar waved a contract in their face.
Why Ukraine's Model Works
The Army of Drones and Brave1 turned thousands of engineers, coders, and tinkerers into force multipliers. Moscow can steal the organizational chart but it cannot steal the human software. Their system punishes the very creativity it now desperately needs.
Local successes like the Lancet and fiber-optic drones prove they can innovate in narrow pockets. Institutionalizing that edge at scale is another matter entirely. Without genuine buy-in from the educated young cohort they claim to target, the entire project stalls.
The Structural Failure
Rumors of fresh mobilization grow louder because the contract market is drying up across the board. Even Medvedev's numbers show contraction. Lyamin will not magically fix institutional fear and demographic aversion. You cannot terrorize people into becoming skilled drone operators who must think three moves ahead while hunted by Ukrainian EW and interceptors.
The regime's own paranoia and contempt for its population keeps biting it in the ass. Meanwhile our unmanned systems keep evolving because the talent actually wants to be there. Major bureaucracy failed. This is structural proof that an imperial slave state cannot out-adapt a society that mobilized its best minds instead of culling them.
The longer this drags on, the clearer the gap becomes. Ukraine is building tomorrow's defense model. Moscow is still trying to recruit it at gunpoint and failing.
