The AfD just took 44 percent in Saxony-Anhalt.

@rusni-pizda.bsky.social

The far-right AfD just took 44 percent in Saxony-Anhalt, while Friedrich Merz's CDU collapsed to 17 percent, and 87 percent of voters told ARD pollsters they are fed up with the federal government in Berlin. This is not a protest vote. It is the direct consequence of years of Berlin's strategic incompetence on energy, migration, and especially the war Moscow started against Ukraine.

The Numbers Are a Serious Rebuke

Eastern Germany, former GDR territory, two million people, 77 percent turnout. The numbers are what they are. A serious rebuke demands attention.

AfD's platform here is explicit: throttle support for Kyiv. Restore business as usual with the Kremlin. Slam the door on migrants. Dream about ditching the euro.

Their local counter-intelligence still tags the party as right-wing extremist. Yet mainstream parties are now staring at the math and realizing a cordon sanitaire might no longer produce a workable government. The only realistic path being discussed is some tolerated AfD minority setup with the BSW. That should terrify anyone who understands what Kremlin influence actually looks like inside European institutions.

Legitimate Grievances, Self-Destructive Channeling

Let's be blunt. Eastern German voters have legitimate grievances about deindustrialization, federal neglect, and an establishment that lectures them while failing to deliver security or prosperity.

But channeling that rage into a party that openly wants to cut weapons and sanctions to the country currently stopping Russian tanks is self-harm dressed up as patriotism. Moscow does not reward weakness with friendship. It exploits it. Every signal of fatigue from Germany is another data point the Kremlin feeds into its hybrid warfare machinery to fracture NATO from within.

You cannot appease an imperial project that sees the collapse of the European security order as its core strategic goal, then act surprised when the bill arrives.

The same people cheering this result will be the first to scream when Russian hybrid ops intensify. They will scream when energy blackmail returns. They will scream when Chinese and Iranian components keep flowing to Moscow's drone factories because Europe lost the will to enforce sanctions.

Ukraine Is the Eastern Flank's Shield

Ukraine is fighting for survival in its own land. We are destroying the offensive potential of the same army that would happily turn the Baltic states, Poland, or eastern Germany into the next testing ground if given the chance.

Every Russian soldier we eliminate is a month bought for the entire eastern flank of NATO. Every logistics hub we burn with long-range strikes is another month. Every month we keep the initiative counts the same. Germany treating this as someone else's problem is what leads to 44 percent support for the pro-Russian option in the east.

The Real Fix Is Competent Governance

The cordon sanitaire was always a temporary bandage. The real fix is for mainstream German politics to deliver competent governance. It means three things:

  • Realistic energy policy
  • Serious rearmament
  • Ironclad support for Ukraine's victory, not managed stalemate

Anything less, and the AfD will not stay at 44 percent. It will keep growing while Moscow laughs and takes notes.

The next federal election is the real test. Berlin still has time to prove that strategic seriousness can beat populist resentment. But the clock is ticking. And the map of Europe does not forgive strategic sleepwalking.
