Ukraine noticed that obvious fact and built a multi-missile ground platform that accepts both Soviet-era aviation missiles and Western ones like AIM-9 and AIM-132. The Shershen system shown at MSPO-2026 is the kind of adaptation that actually matters in this war.
A Ground Launcher Built Like a Fighter Jet
NASAMS uses AMRAAM. IRIS-T uses IRIS-T. Crotale uses aviation-derived interceptors. Only Patriot and SAMP/T operate with specialized surface-to-air missiles. So the Ukrainian team built a multi-missile ground platform that accepts Soviet-era aviation missiles and Western ones like AIM-9 and AIM-132.

The engagement sequence mirrors what happens on a fighter jet. External radar or early warning data cues the system, the most dangerous aerodynamic target gets tracked, and the missile is fired using the same procedure as an aircraft.
An Honest Mid-Tier Solution
The stated target set is drones, cruise missiles, aircraft, helicopters. Not ballistic missiles. An honest limitation matters because too many systems get oversold as universal shields.

That is either a procurement failure or a communication failure. Neither is acceptable in year three of a full-scale war.
