Appeasing the members of an alliance only encourages it. You deter it by making the cost of coordination unbearable. That means:
- Real secondary sanctions on Chinese satellite firms, not symbolic designations
- Treating Iranian targeting support as an act of war, not a regulatory issue
- Understanding that every concession to Putin teaches Xi and Tehran that the United States will absorb casualties and respond with a memo
The Value of Resolve
The Strait of Hormuz matters beyond its region. Ukraine fights the same war every day, with different tools. The enemy understands the value of precision. The question is whether Washington understands the value of resolve.
