In 2010, I wrote a letter to my 2020 self. My 2020 self decided to write a letter to future Russell in 2025. This morning, I received that letter. Today, I'd like to share it with you all:
Dear Russell in 2025,
I just got my last letter I wrote back in 2010. It was an eye opener. So here we are again. This time this letter is going to be 5 years into the future. So lets start with a few current events.
- Today is my 40th birthday
- I am married and have 2 kids.
- The LAS VEGAS Raiders will play for the first time this year in Vegas.
2025 Russell, by the time you get this letter, I hope the following has happened:
- Your kids continue to grow up healthy, handsome, and loving.
- You are with someone you love.
- Under 275lbs FOR REAL THIS TIME! [2025 Russell here, NOPE!]
I hope you are enjoying life. There is so much that is going on in 2020 and at times it has been overwhelming. My sister in law has stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her spine. My grandma has something but, she doesnt want to find out what it is. The doctor has given her 6 months. My friend may have a serious heart condition. This is not what I expected 2020 to be like. I am sure it will get better, but by 2025...some people maybe gone. [2025 Russell again, 2 of the 3 have gone to the next place]
If there is something I want you to know, 5 years-from-now-me, it's to enjoy life and surround yourself with those that you love. I want you to hug the person next to you. I don't care who it is. Hug your loved ones. All of them. Call your friends you haven't spoken to in a long time and catch up with them. Diddy once said, the sun don't shine forever, so as long as its here we may as well shine together.
I'm sitting here at my computer filled with joy. I am grateful for the life that I have right now. If I was to die tomorrow, I would have no regerts. I love and am loved. All you need is love brother. You keep your head up. I hope you're still banging whomever you are with. I love you brother.

PS: The neighbor upstairs is loud AF. Do they still use the term AF in 2025? I hope not.
