During his conquest of Mexico, Hernán Cortés, reportedly ordered his ships to be burned. The men on those ships were left with no choice but to fight and conquer. Retreat was no longer an option.
Here we are in 2025. Twitter is now X. X is now the land of hate mongers and troll bots. The owner of X has transformed into the final form of his villain arc. The owner of Meta has not only rolled back fact-checking for Facebook and Instagram, he now looks like he is trying to audition for the now-defunct reality show, Jersey Shore. Tiktok went away for a while, then came back praising the incoming president on his support in getting services back up. Finally, we have what can only be described as American oligarchs, ready to kiss the ring and bend the knee for the incoming POTUS at his inauguration.
So much drama in the realm of Social Media. Many rely on social media for news, entertainment, make money, and of course socialize. My anxiety goes off the charts when thinking about using the above platforms and supporting bad people (My opinion).
What can we do? WE. FUCKING. LEAVE.
Take your ball and find some place else that wants you around. Find that place where you feel comfortable with being who you are and sharing the ideas that you want to share. You find the next place to call home. I did not like what the other social media places have become and I left. I left Facebook. I left Instagram. I left Twitter. Now, I am here in the BlueSky. Is this the forever home? I don't know. But, I am here to find out. All I do know for sure is, I am not going back to the other places filled with hate, misinformation, and a CEO who dresses up as an Italian extra in the next Rocky Balboa movie.
For now, I sit and admire the blue sky and hope the burning ship, off in the distance, will light the way.
