These were some quick notes I took while listening to Zuck preach about how awful we've been by making him be woke and how now he's fixing all that...my thoughts in brackets.
Recent election was a cultural tipping point towards getting back to prioritising free speech.
The "legacy media" [whose the new media? Facebook/X?] wrote "non-stop" about how misinformation was a threat to democracy.
Fact checkers have become too politically biased [as in, not biased towards the right?] replace with community notes.
Get rid of a bunch of restrictions on immigration and gender that our out of touch with mainstream discourse. [whose mainstream discourse? That of the maga movement? That is not the mainstream]
What started as movement to become more inclusive being used to shutdown people with different ideas. [as oposed to bullying people off the platform for having different ideas which is what the inclusivity movement sought to address]
Changing from filtering "bad stuff" to only looking at it if it is reported. Avoiding innocent people gatting caught up in bans -filters get things wrong
Phasing back in "civic content". [political news pushed via algorithms - but what "news" and what bias?]
Moving mod team out of cali into texas, because there is less concern about the bias of their teams there. [so they resent not being able to be biased??]
All predicated on improving "free expression". [freedom to express hate speech]
