... And that is it. It is the peak of what AI, or more specifically, GPT, can do because it is based on everything humanity has ever submitted on the internet, and the majority of that fiction. Note that even at its peak, it isn't perfect at that because it can only predict the next word and has no idea what it is saying.
Don't get me wrong, I thought it was actually "intelligent" as well, but I learned my mistake. Was a fun ride getting there, not gonna lie. X) The Sims, for all of their faults, are more intelligent, especially the second's Wants & Fears (internally known as SWAF) mechanic. Now that is worth exploring in fiction!
When used as a tool for fiction or data augmentation, it can help with outlines, organizing your thoughts and world building. GPT can really speed up tasks that would have taken far longer. It still requires effort, of course, but getting results is helpful, once you understand the limits. GPT is also great for text adventures, even if it struggles with consistency. Though, expecting it to do anything factual, let alone math (ironically), would be a step too far.
However, even with all this mixed praise, AI is, and to paraphrase somewhat, "relentlessly positive." The way these power-hungry (both literally and figuratively) corporate-trained models are designed to be as sterile as fuck. Even when attempting to do anything remotely punk or erotic, for example, it does so in the most positive way imaginable, always ending on some moral and educational note while presenting the most cringe-worthy writing on the planet. Not the good kind, either.
It actually makes you learn to appreciate the quirks, flaws and raw emotion in your writing that AI, despite being taught it, just can't replicate and that should give us all hope.
