Furry Blue Blog

Furry Blue is an old name I used for one of my first websites that wasn't a fan site, but instead was dedicated to hosting my artwork. It was originally known as The Furry Blue DJ (FBDJ) because I had intended to get into DJ mixing. Unfortunately, it was 2005, I was a teenager, and the only thing I knew was free subdomains. XD

It never launched due to things quickly changing that year. However, the name turned out to be quite versatile, as you can see. Inspired by Cartoon Network's former Department of Cartoons (D.O.C.) website, I managed to make one successful spin-off, Furry Blue DOC, when my style changed.

I had attempted to relaunch the Furry Blue name, sans the DJ, on the Fediverse using Castopod using the same hardware as my now-defunct Pixelfed instance to try out DJing using newer software. That didn't work out because my Pixelfed was being held together with duct tape, with a lot of breaking changes that, when combined with occasional internet outages, proved to be more trouble than it was worth. Which sucked because I had quite a growing following. When Loops, an ActivityPub-based TikTok clone made by the same person working on Pixelfed, was announced, I threw my table up and left those instances abandoned.

Since the domain for my Bluesky username is occupied by my Mastodon instance, I decided to finally put my money where my mouth is, reactivate auto-renewal for the Furry Blue one, and host an WhiteWind blog there based on Samuel's code. This is possible because, well, it's based on ATProto.

I have my personal changes made on a separate branch from the main, so I can hopefully receive upstream ones that can be pulled into mine. Separate feature branches based on the main branch will be made for any changes that can benefit him. Win-win.

This is my first time using Node for an actual website. Before, I just used it for Tauri to create simple desktop apps using Node for the front end before .NET Blazor became available as an option. While the original FBDJ was designed in FrontPage 2003, the DOC version was rewritten from scratch after an HDD failure. So Node has always felt like overkill to me when, ya' know, PHP exists. But since the resources and maintenance on this are low, I'm willing to accept it.
