The interoperability and fragmentation problem between the various social network protocols

@zkorum.com

The challenge of interoperability, whether for social networks or online services, stems from the identity problem. Users currently must create accounts for each service, managed by providers, and these accounts aren't designed to be interoperable. Alternatively, users can "log in with Google" and entrust their lives to Google. The key solution lies in bringing the user back to the centre with Self-Sovereign Identity.

Making our app or protocol universally interoperable with all existing and future social network protocols, while ensuring zero data loss, is both unrealistic and unscalable. Decentralised social networks are only interoperable within their own protocols. The only solution is cross-posting. How to make cross-posting interoperable? By using verifiable semantic data.

True scalability lies in credential interoperability. Users should be able to use personal credentials (whatever the standards) across different services, be it a social network or a dating app, instead of creating endless accounts. This aligns with the current trend; for instance, eIDAS 2.0 mandates all online large organisations including Facebook and Amazon to be interoperable with the European Digital Identity.

Viewing humans as the API to the services they use represents genuine interoperability.
